Paul, like many others who later pondered the Genesis texts, adds his own interpretations. The “last Adam” is, of course, Christ.

In my own reading, I distinguish between Jesus, the historical human, and Christ, a power that comes upon Jesus, infusing him with divinity. According to the gospel of John, this power is something that exists from the very beginning of the cosmos and will continue to the end of time.
